Frankenstein Craftivity - Halloween Kids Creative Writing Craft (2024)

Get the kids excited about writing with this fun Frankenstein Craftivity! Children can practice their cutting and pasting skills by building the paper character first, and then let their imagination and creative writing flow as they dream up ideas for what they would do if Frankenstein were their friend! Once completed, this Halloween craftivity would look awesome displayed on the wall or bulletin board.

This Frankenstein printable craftivity is just one in a series of Halloween characters available for you to download – find links to them at the end of this post.

Frankenstein Craftivity

This cute Frankenstein has been hand-drawn by a very talented friend of mine, and I’ve not only got this series of Halloween craftivities for you but also a set of fun coloring sheets featuring the same characters!

There are two parts to this project – building the Frankenstein character and then filling in the writing prompt section. Depending on your child’s age(s) you may have to help them with some aspects of the project.

As with [most of] my free printables, this Halloween craftivity is available in two different sizes – A4 and US Letter (8.5″ x 11″).

Materials & Tools Needed

To complete this Frankenstein craft and creative writing activity you will need the following supplies:

Building the Frankenstein

The Frankenstein has the following components and the printable gives you a guide as to what colors to use. However, you can use any colors that you like!

  • Face
  • Eyes
  • Striped Top (with Stripes)
  • Bolts
  • Writing Prompt Sheet x 2 (one with test tube to color, and one without)

There are a few different ways you can build and use this free Halloween activity, which means you can get multiple uses from the same printable!

  1. Print the character template onto white paper (or thin card that goes through your printer), cut and color the pieces before assembly.
  2. Print the character template onto white paper (or thin card that goes through your printer), cut and trace around onto colored construction paper then use those pieces to assemble the Frankenstein.
  3. Print the character template onto colored paper (or thin card that goes through your printer) and cut out the pieces to use in the craftivity.

However you decide to print and cut out the pieces, the assembly remains the same – use the photos in this post as a guide to sticking everything together. You can use a glue stick or glue roller.

Once the Frankenstein has been assembled, it’s time to write about him!

Creative Writing

Print the writing sheet and follow the writing prompt at the top: If Frankenstein Were My Friend

When the writing activity has been completed, color in the border and the test tube.

If your child gets stuck for what to write, ask some questions to spark ideas! You can always print extra writing pages if they want to write more.

  • What would you do together?
  • What games would you play?
  • Where would you visit?
  • Would you introduce him to your other friends?

Assembling the Frankenstein Craftivity

Stick the writing page onto a piece of black card, and attach the Frankenstein to the top (as demonstrated in the photos in this post). Or you could use a big sheet of paper and stick them side-by-side.

Additional Activity Idea!

Why not cut the pieces from craft foam and build a 3-D relief of the Halloween character? You will have to add on the details like buttons, or facial features, and cut out the black block sections from black craft foam. It might be a good problem-solving activity for older children as they figure out how to build it from the template provided.

However you decide to use this Halloween kids’ activity, the important thing is to have some fun, and get creative – not only with the craft portion of the project but with the writing prompt too!
