Social media was abuzz with condolences and tributes on
Wednesday, when Emmy and Oscar winner actress Cloris Leachman died at the age
of 94.
The actress was best known for Emmy-winning role in series
“The Mary Tyler Moore Show” as Phyllis and her Oscar-winning performance in the
movie “The Last Picture Show.”
She died a natural death at her residence in Encinitas,
California.
Throughout her extraordinary career as a television actress,
Leachman won eight Emmy Awards, leveling up with Julia Louis-Dreyfus for the
actresses who won the most acting awards in Emmys’ history.
She has been remarkable with her comedic chops in “Young
Frankenstein” as Frau Blucher (remember that horse whinnying?).
Her other noteworthy performances in TV series include “The
Migrants,” “Ladies of the Corridor,” “The Woman Who Willed a Miracle,” and “The
Facts of Life.”
Her long-serving manager, Juliet Green paid tribute to the
late actress in a heartfelt social media post, writing, “It’s been my privilege
to work with Cloris Leachman, one of the most fearless actresses of our time.
There was no one like Cloris. With a single look she had the ability to break
your heart or make you laugh ‘till the tears ran down your face. You never knew
what Cloris was going to say or do and that unpredictable quality was part of
her unparalleled magic.”
After hearing the news of her death, several A-list celebrities
took to social media to share their fond memories with the actress and to offer
their condolences.
Notable stars including George Takei, Bob Saget, Ed Asner and John Stamos were also among those who reacted to Cloris Leachman’s death at 94.
Fellow actress Amber Tamblyn who worked with the pioneering actress on the sitcom “Joan of Arcadia” also tweeted, saying, “What a brilliant, fearless firecracker she was and will be remembered as.”
Eddie McClintock, fellow-actor who worked with Leachman in her initial years of her career, said, “She re-enacted all our favorite lines from ‘Young Frankenstein’ and ‘High Anxiety’. Then, one day during rehearsal, she mooned us all. Amazing. I’ll never forget it, or her,” he tweeted.
